– 10 – Newsletter sponsor: www.highwaycare.com NEWS  |  ISSUE 30 GK Solutions Partners with Heald to Provide Custom Matadors in Australia’s Surfers Paradise Heald and its Australian distributor, GK Solutions, who have recently joined the PSSA as members, have partnered to provide Matador sliding bollard systems for the iconic Cavill Avenue Mall in Surfers Paradise. Following the ramming attack that took place in Melbourne’s Bourke Street in January 2017, Australian Federal, State and Local Governments have been working to provide Hostile Vehicle Mitigation at high profile sites around the country. The Gold Coast’s Cavill Avenue is a popular pedestrian mall that runs East to West from Surfers Paradise Beach. In peak season thousands of tourists fill the mall taking in the shops and restaurants from early morning till late at night. The mall was therefore identified by local Government as an area that required HVM measures. Being directly across the road from a beach, the client had major concerns about the ongoing reliability of retractable bollards in an area where sand is continuously being blown into the streets. As such, they required a system that was easily accessible for regular maintenance in an environment that would be harsh on the internal working parts of any bollard system. After evaluating a range of options, the Heald Matador was selected for its ease of use in addition to the easy accessibility it provides for maintenance and cleaning crews, whilst meeting the protective requirements set by government. The client also wanted a very specific look for the bollards and so a custom wrap was designed to fit in with the design parameters. Three four-bollard Matadors and a single six-bollard Matador were installed on Cavill Avenue, allowing for pedestrians to move around safely during peak times whilst work crews, deliveries and emergency vehicles are still able to gain easy access when required. This installation capped off a successful year for Heald's Matador in Australia, with similar installations taking place on Melbourne’s Southbank and at a major shopping precinct in Melbourne’s docklands.
