– 10 – Newsletter sponsor: www.highwaycare.com NEWS  |  ISSUE 27 Hardstaff Barriers support Coronavirus Hospital project with HVM protection Hardstaff Barriers a division of Hill and Smith Ltd delivered and installed hostile vehicle mitigation protection to the NHS Nightingale COVID-19 support Hospital in Harrogate through its government framework. The NHS Nightingale Hospital Yorkshire and the Humber is a 500-bed COVID-19 support hospital, which was converted from Harrogate's Convention Centre, in under three weeks. The hospital was officially opened by 100-year-old war veteran Captain Tom Moore on April 20th, in a virtual ceremony. As part of the conversion from convention centre to hospital, two large storage tanks were installed to provide oxygen supplies to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) beds within the hospital. These tanks are a critical asset to the hospital and any issues with these tanks would have potentially caused the disruption of crucial oxygen supply to COVID-19 patients. The oxygen tanks were located in close proximity to the main road and were potentially at risk of damage from vehicle collision. Hardstaff Barriers were able to provide a solution, through its government framework, and following a site survey, a design was completed. The site visit and design took place on 7th April and the installation took place on 9 April and was completed in less than three hours, by a team of five, working within the social distance guidelines. Hardstaff installed an HVM Swing Arm Gate and 30 metres of concrete Quick Moveable Barrier (QMB). A spokesman for Hardstaff Barriers commented, “The solution involved linear protection products and a gated system for essential access. The temporary security surface mounted products allow for easy modification should the site build require modification.
