– 23 – ISSUE 33  | NEWS Protecting People & Places with Cova’s New Miti-Gate®R Cova continue to successfully deliver their core original mission statement of ‘Invention not Convention’ which was set out at the very beginning of their conception back in 1987 and continue to strive their quest to protecting people and places. Their team of expert design engineers have been Redesigning and Redeveloping their popular manual hostile vehicle security barrier (VSB), the Miti-Gate® initially launched in 2012 for the London Olympics achieving PAS68 standards from a 7.5t truck travelling at 40mph. Times have changed as have the threat level since that time, and Cova recognised an opening in the market to improve their manual barrier which has proved popular over the years. The barrier already provides an excellent HVM perimeter installation for sports stadiums, airports, national heritage sites and outdoor street markets and it can also be used to control traffic or pedestrian flow when in the open position. So, roll forward 10 years from its initial design, and the new improved redesigned model the ‘Miti-Gate®R ‘ is the world’s first product to have been independently tested to meet the very latest IWA-14:2013 standards as well as the CPNI Vehicle Attack Delay Standard (VADS) 10-2019 rating, whilst still retaining the original PAS68:2010 certification. This means that this improved product can now protect against all types of vehicle threats from a small hatchback car, a 4x4 or a large 7.5t truck. As well as presenting advertising revenue opportunities from the attack or secure side of the barrier their latest model has been intuitively designed so that existing installations can be retrofitted to increase protection within a matter of minutes via a hi-ab lorry. The benefit meaning minimum disruption for existing clients and that they can be confident it meets all the latest standards. The redesign of this product has coincided with the impending Protect Duty, which is also at the heart of Cova’s passion to make publicly accessible venues safe and secure. Being sited between two 40mph shallow depth crash rated bollards, their 8m wide barrier provides a total protection span of 8760mm. Bringing to end an outstanding 2021 year of business, Cova’s latest redesigned product has been recognised as a FINALIST in the UK Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPA’s) in 2022 within the ‘Outstanding New Security Product’ category and is the only nominated perimeter protection product. Professor Martin Gill, Director commented in a letter to Cova ‘This is a major achievement as we received more entries than ever before, you should feel very proud! The finalists are judged by a panel of 28 independent experts from across the security industry and is a recognised and prestigious award for new products in the security sector.
