NEWS  |  ISSUE 26 – 4 – Newsletter sponsor: www.highwaycare.com PSSA Security Interact Event a resounding success! Paul Jeffrey, PSSA chairman, welcomed over 100 attendees to Ardencote Manor for the latest PSSA Security Interact Event (29th & 30th January) which was deemed a resounding success! This event, for the first time, was extended to two days to incorporate a specific US day. Paul said,“It was excellent to have so many representatives from both member and non-member manufacturers, installers and consultants including a number of international visitors as well as a large delegation from the United States. The new ‘interactive’format of the event allowed plenty of involvement from the varied audience.” The two-day event boasted a packed schedule – which included presentations covering ‘on point’topics such as blast considerations for security products, terrorism insurance, and perimeter protection. Also, on the agenda were International trade advice, a National Vehicle Threat Mitigation Unit briefing and an update on drone technology. The PSSA has recently built up a working relationship with the US- based Security Industry Association (SIA). The second day of the event was dedicated to the SIA’s activities and the US market and how PSSA members could benefit. Don Erickson, SIA CEO, addressed the delegates before introducing Perimeter Security Committee chairman Rob Reiter, who offered insights into the American market and how UK businesses can access this sector. Security modelling advances were also discussed as were the differences between ASTM and IWA test standards before an introduction to the security measures at one of the most protected sites in the US from Joseph Okes, assistant director of Resilience and Security, Office of Security Programs, Office of the Architect of the Capitol. The two-day event concluded with a multi-topic discussion panel with SIA and PSSA members – topics included PAS170 opportunities, approaches to HVA/HVM, the SAFETY Act and how it will affect trade and distribution for UK products into the US high-security market. Following the event, a ‘networking’dinner offered the delegates and hosts a chance to wind down from the conference. The PSSA Security Interact Event increases in popularity and continues to grow. The event provides excellent networking opportunities and gives members the chance to discuss the latest issues in the security sector and share experiences. It also provides the PSSA teamwith the perfect platform to address its members. Paul Jeffery commented on the event,“We have received very positive feedback from the latest event. The attendance of the SIA was very well received, and the collaboration will continue. There’s also considerable interest in a PSSA delegation visit toWashington. We are looking forward to welcoming American attendees back to the UK in the near future.” Paul concluded,“It’s our aim to build on the success of these events – we are encouraging PSSA members to get in touch with ideas for future conference topics. The PSSA teamwould also like to extend special thanks to all speakers and our badge sponsors Heald.” The next PSSA Interact Event will be announced soon.
