PSSA industry day deemed a resounding success The inaugural PSSA industry day was held at Woodland Grange on 31st January with members and non members welcomed and positive feedback received from attendees. A wide range of presenters covered topics including securing perimeters against drones, counter vehicle as weapon testing, CPNI and HS2. The initial expected attendee number was surpassed with the day oversubscribed by a staggering 50%. The emerging drone industry and how to protect perimeters against drone invasions was one of the hot topics on the agenda and of particular interest to delegates following the recent events at Gatwick! Amit Samani from Dedrone explained how disruption to business continuity is not the only impact that drones can have, with threats to customer safety creating the need for identifying and preventing unauthorised activity. A development of multi sensor approaches will continue to strengthen the protection of perimeters from drone attacks. The close links between PSSA and CPNI (Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure) continued with representatives present on the day who gave important updates and advice for the continued protection of the UK national infrastructure. As HS2 begins to make tracks up the country, the possibilities for PSSA members will increase. Jurek Tolloczko explained that it is not just the lines themselves that perimeter protection needs to be considered for, but the new stations being built and the amenities that go with them. With HS2 split in to North, Central and South areas, contracts are available across all areas. With membership of the PSSA indicative of your quality credentials this should appeal to the qualified specialists looking at securing contractors. The PSSA is looking ahead to the next Industry Day on Wednesday June 12th 2019 and the team hopes to replicate the success of the inaugural event.
