The event, held at London’s Olympia (28 – 29 November 2018), provides us the opportunity to meet with our attending members, and other security industry professionals, with who we have a close working relationship, including CPNI and JSaRC. The show also allows us to spread the word about the work PSSA is involved in and to talk to companies who might have an interest in joining our organisation. Promoting our professional standards in perimeter protection, the benefits of the association and the PSSA’s visions for the future. It’s encouraging to see many PSSA members exhibiting at the event – particularly the companies who have been instrumental in bringing the event together. Zaun will be hosting a networking drinks reception on the first day of the event (28 November) which will provide security professionals and suppliers the opportunity to meet and chat in an informal atmosphere. ATG Access and Stadium TM will also be demonstrating their services in ‘real time’ at the show - as both companies are responsible for the event’s external security. Competition: airport vehicle checkpoint screening Can you help with innovative solutions for screening vehicles at airport checkpoints? The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition is looking to make changes in aviation security. This competition is part of a wider range of activities being carried out by the Future Aviation Security Solutions (FASS) programme, which is a joint Department for Transport and Home Office initiative. The FASS programme is investing £25.5 million over a 5-year period to promote innovation to improve aviation security. VCPs (Vehicle Checkpoints) play a vital role in the functioning of airports. All airport vehicles must be security screened before being authorised to access the secure airside perimeter. VCPs screen a wide variety of vehicles on a daily basis, carrying goods which are vital for airports to operate. For example, VCPs need to screen catering, aviation fuel deliveries, air cargo and maintenance goods. The screening of vehicles and their loads takes place using a variety of methods, such as explosive trace detection, x-ray screening and manual searches. Please read here for further information. Funding for this competition is available for £2.5m. The competition closes on 20 September 2018 . For further guidance and help on applying for supplier funding through DASA please contact accelerator@dstl.gov.uk
