Rob Oliver, Secretary to the Council of the
PSSA, commented recently: “Security in all
its aspects is high on the national agenda
right now. Whilst cyber security has hit
the headlines, physical security in terms of
terrorist threats and, now, border issues is
something that will not go away. The PSSA,
and its members, has a role in promoting high
quality products and solutions to some very
real challenges.”
PSSA members supply a wide range of
products and services including vehicle
security barriers used for hostile vehicle
mitigation, high security perimeter fences,
gates and pedestrian access portals. A
range of expert consultancy services is also
available from PSSA members.
PSSA Verification Scheme
PSSA has initiated the development of a
Verification Scheme to help raise industry
performance and provide confidence to
perimeter security system buyers and others
about high security products and services
supplied by PSSA members. The Scheme, which
is independently managed by Business Keys
Limited in close working partnership with the
PSSA and its stakeholders, now has a record
number of participants in its current list of
companies, as it becomes established.
The Verification Scheme is unique in its
design and incorporates verification to all
relevant standards and legal requirements,
unlike other certification schemes available
which address compliance to a single standard.
It also confirms that a supplier of high security
products is capable of consistently managing
the product and regulatory requirements
associated with their equipment or service
as part of their overall business management
system. The Scheme has also been designed
to dovetail with business and security risk
management procedures recommended by
the CPNI.
To gain access to the new Verification
Scheme, PSSA member companies are involved
a rigorous process of evaluation of both their
management system and verification of their
products. If successful this process leads to
member companies having the authority
to use the PSSA Verification Mark and their
inclusion in the PSSA-CPNI published list
of certified products and services. This will
become the new ‘go to’ register for current and
future customers to get information on what a
company supplies.
Sourcing PSSA members, products and
services
PSSA member companies can be sourced via the
Association’s website, where you can also see
information about their products and services.
Member companies are allowed to use the PSSA
logo – which is a sign of their commitment to
product excellence and professionalism in the
perimeter security sector.
Membership also enables companies to
participate in, and provide information on,
standards’ initiatives including:
• New proposals for CEN product testing
standards
• Setting the professional standards for
product installation criteria
• Membership of work groups, including
those covering International Business and
Marketing
• Networking events within the industry
For companies involved in the perimeter
security industry there is no better time to be
part of one of the sector’s newest and most
forward thinking trade associations. For ports
looking to evaluate and strengthen their
perimeter security, the PSSA and its members
offer an invaluable service to meet the
requirements of all sizes of operations.
