A groundbreaking intumescent strip for fire doors was among the award winners at the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) Awards 2018.
Developed by Morland, Forever Firecheck won the Process Efficiency Award, which champions products that cost-effectively raise quality and improve delivery times.
Intumescent strips fitted on fire-rated doors are traditionally encapsulated in plastic and manually fitted. Morland created a more resilient, sustainable product by instead eliminating plastic entirely.
Using innovative wrapping technology, the Welshpool-based firm can fit intumescent strips at 25m per minute compared to just 8m achievable through traditional methods.
“The Process Efficiency Award is all about recognising projects that have improved performance by maximising value for money, quality and speed of delivery – Morland’s Forever Firecheck delivers on all these counts,” said Helen Hewitt, CEO at the BWF, who presented the award to Morland at the event, held at Stationer’s Hall in central London. “My warm congratulations go out to them.”
Andrew Warren, commercial director at Morland, said: “We’ve had a great evening. It’s taken us two years to develop our product and it’s involved a lot of people and testing.
“We didn’t get it right first time, so we had to work out why. We got everybody back, we tested again, we passed, and now have a certified product – so it feels really good to win this award.”
Founded in 1972, Morland is part of Newmor Group Ltd and a manufacturer of pre-finished fit-out products.
Now in their 10th year, the BWF Awards celebrates excellence in UK woodworking in terms of technical innovation, design, process efficiencies and health and safety.
