CHAIRMAN'S INTRODUCTION

NEW CERTIFICATION SCHEME & STANDARD – TIMETABLE OUTLINED BY THE PSSA

At the Perimeter Security Suppliers Association (PSSA) first annual conference, I was very pleased to be able to confirm the intended timetable for the implementation of the new independent, company and product certification scheme. The scheme is now in place, and with work now starting to gain agreement across our industry on a new standard to cover ‘non-impact-rating’ criteria, it could be as early as Spring 2011 that we are able to report the first certifications being awarded.

As all that were present will know, the PSSA directors have worked hard with LPCB; the Loss Prevention Certification Board (part of BRE Global) who have written the scheme (SD073), as well as with CPNI, TRL, MIRA, and others, and the PSSA’s attention is now turning to the pulling together of an expert panel from across the industry to establish the new standard.
It was extremely heartening that both the progress and direction were warmly received, and encouraging and constructive comments were forthcoming from both members and non-members alike. This reinforces our view that the general direction is correct.

We were also able to report the very real potential to extend the scheme to cover high security fencing, alongside H.V.M. products,and this attracted good interest both at the conference (a number of members already cover both areas), as well as more widely since.

The conference was very well attended by representatives from companies right across the industry with several new PSSA membership enquiries being received on the day.

We would like to extend our gratitude to CPNI and HOSDB for their contributions and support, both on the day of the conference, and to the PSSA and its’ aims, and of course to TRL who provided the excellent venue and refreshments and were such excellent hosts.
